Maintaining a proper keto diet takes work. And money. Unfortunately, western diets are often very carb-centric, making crafting a balanced keto diet difficult and expensive. Luckily, Aldi has a surprisingly wide variety of high-quality budget-friendly keto options, from the essentials, like meat and eggs, to the non-essentials, like keto ice cream.
We’ve gone ahead and put together this comprehensive list of our favorite Aldi keto options to help you save time and money. We know how difficult it can be to follow a strict keto diet and hope this guide can make your keto life a bit easier. Below you’ll find everything from (low carb) soup to nuts, all of it keto-approved!
Meat at Aldi
Most keto diets feature plenty of meat and fish, and Aldi has tons of affordable options for both.
1. Never Any! Spinach & Feta Chicken Sausage
These chicken sausages are basically tiny meals in sausage form. They’re great by themselves or as part of a larger meal and pack an impressive 19g of fat into each 140 calorie link.
2. Simply Nature 100% Grass-Fed 85% Lean Ground Beef
Ground beef is something we buy almost every time we go to Aldi. Simply Nature makes high-quality 100% Grass-Fed ground beef that sells for just over $5 per quarter-pound. It’s a bit expensive but worth it.
3. Appleton Farms Sliced Bacon
We’re pretty sure that at least 50% of keto dieters switched to keto as an excuse to eat more bacon. Jokes aside, bacon is a delicious way up the fat content of virtually any meal. No trip to Aldi would be complete without picking up a pack — or maybe two. We love to use this bacon in our bacon egg cups.
4. Fresh Atlantic Salmon
Fish is an important part of every keto diet, and Aldi makes it easy to eat more fish with their Fresh Atlantic Salmon. It’s full of healthy fats and oils and, of course, no net carbs. It’s a bit pricey, but not unreasonably so.
5. Kirkwood Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
These boneless and skinless chicken breasts come in affordable two-pound packages. We love to buy a few packs and grill enough for one week on meal prep days. This is our favorite way to add some tasty, clean protein to our diet.
6. Kirkwood Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs
If you prefer thighs, Kirkwood has you covered. These are perfect for frying — with alternative flour, of course — or baking and are a great option your keto and non-keto guests can both enjoy.
7. Fresh Tilapia Filets
Tilapia gets a bad rap sometimes for being low-quality, but modern tilapia is an affordable healthy alternative to more expensive fish. These fresh fillets are a great budget-friendly option that boasts an impressive 23g per 113g serving.
8. Mild Italian Sausage
This balanced Italian sausage feels right at home next to some keto pasta but also has enough flavor to be satisfying by itself. Throw it in a pot of sauce for a real Italian treat, just like mama used to make.
9. Lunch Mate Smoked Honey Ham
Aldi has a whole line of Lunch Mate deli meats that fit well in a keto diet. The smoked honey ham is one of our favorites, perfect for making a sandwich on some keto bread or eating rolled up together with a slice of cheese. Yum!
10. Never Any! Oven-roasted Turkey Breast
For anyone that prefers turkey over ham, we recommend the Never Any Oven-roasted turkey breast. It has no nitrates or nitrites added, making it one of the healthiest choices for deli meat.
11. Northern Catch Solid White Tuna
Tuna is the poster child for non-perishable, making it a great option to have on hand for emergencies or whenever you unexpectedly run out of stuff to make lunch. These cans are cheap and tasty, and we always make sure we have at least a few in our closet.
Best Aldi Keto Dairy Items
Next up, everybody’s favorite, the dairy section! Aldi has a plethora of cheese, butter, and cream available at great prices.
1. Countryside Creamery Heavy Whipping Cream
You can never have enough heavy cream on hand when you’re on a keto diet, especially if you use it like we do in our homemade keto coffee recipe. This heavy whipping cream is usually around $2, packed with fat, and has a delightfully smooth texture, making it an instant buy.
2. Happy Farms Cheese Blocks
Happy Farms makes hard cheese blocks that come in tons of affordable varieties, perfect for serving at parties or noshing throughout the day. The colby jack is especially delicious!
3. Kerrygold Butter
We can’t get enough butter. There, we said it. You can usually find Kerrygold Butter for around $2.85 per half-pound at Aldi. If you’ve never tried Kerrygold Butter, do yourself a favor and pick some up next time you’re out shopping.
4. Simply Nature Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is surprisingly versatile and can be used as a general pan-greaser without affecting flavor too much. We use this all the time in baking and cooking, only occasionally in coconut-flavored desserts. As a bonus, you can also use it as a hair conditioner — we’re only half-joking; people do that!
5. Carlini Ghee
If you’re a keto dieter and have never had ghee, you’re missing out. Ghee is clarified butter, which means it’s been heated and strained to remove water. What you’re left with after clarification is a smooth, creamy, buttery spread that goes great anywhere you’d normally use butter. It’s a bit expensive, but one jar lasts quite a while.
6. Happy Farms Cream Cheese
Cream cheese is a must-have if you’re on a keto diet. Happy Farms cream cheese is smooth and delicious and only costs $0.79 for an eight-ounce package!
7. Goldhen Eggs
Goldhen eggs are an absolute steal at only $0.88 per dozen! If you go through eggs as often as we do, you’ll probably want to stock up on a few dozen. Goldhen eggs also get a bonus point for the clever name.
8. Emporium Selection Gourmet Snacking Cheese
These gouda and habanero jack cheeses come in convenient strips that are easy to eat on the go. You pay a little more for convenience, but not much, and we think it’s more than worth the extra cost.
9. Crystal Farms Mozarella Cheese Wraps
Our minds were blown when we saw these. We love wrapping deli meat in cheese, but these wraps take that to the next level. The large slices are perfectly wrap-sized, making it easy to mimic a traditional deli wrap with a piece of cheese. We pick up at least one pack of these every time we take a trip to Aldi.
Fruits and Veggies at Aldi
While meats and cheeses are the stars of many keto diets, fruits and veggies play important supporting roles. Aldi has you covered with tons of great low carb options. Here are some of our favorites.
1. Mini Avocados
These mini avocados are the perfect size for adding to a salad or making a quick snack. They’re cheap and delicious, and you don’t have to painstakingly wrap them in cling wrap to prevent them from turning brown since you finish one by yourself easily. These are perfect for use in our Mexican stuffed avocado recipe.
2. Season’s Choice Riced Garlic & Herb Cauliflower
Riced cauliflower is an excellent way to liven up keto meals. Season’s Choice garlic and herb variety has a little extra kick compared to the plain option, and we can’t get enough of it. These frozen bags are easy to stock up on because they’re cheap and last nearly forever.
3. Season’s Choice Steamed Broccoli Florets
Frozen veggies have their time and place, and these frozen broccoli florets have bailed us out on more than one occasion. Tread lightly with these as one 85g serving has about 5g of net carbs.
4. Season’s Choice Zucchini Spirals
Another Aldi keto item from Season’s Choice, these zucchini spirals are a breeze to prepare. They’re perfect for making a keto-friendly “pasta” dish when you don’t have time to peel and cut zucchini by hand.
5. Simply Nature Organic Baby Spinach
Leafy greens like spinach and kale are an important part of any diet, including keto diets. This organic baby spinach is versatile, making it a good option for people who don’t want to stock tons of different leafy greens. We use it to make salads, on sandwiches, and sautee it in coconut or avocado oil.
Aldi Keto Bread
Finding keto-friendly bread can be tricky, but Aldi has several good options with just a few net carbs per serving.
1. L’oven Fresh Keto Friendly Multiseed Bread
L’oven Fresh is an in-house Aldi brand that makes keto-friendly baked goods and bread. This multiseed bread is delicious and makes us almost forget our love of regular bread — almost. It has 5g of protein per slice and 0g net carbs.
2. L’oven Fresh Keto Friendly White Bread With Butter
L’oven Fresh also has a white bread option, although we prefer the multiseed version for everything except making toast. This one also has 0g net carbs.
3. L’oven Fresh Keto Friendly Buns
If you’re having a keto-friendly BBQ, you need some keto-friendly buns. Sure, you could enjoy your burger sans bun, but sometimes that just doesn’t cut it. These L’oven Fresh keto-friendly buns have 2g net carbs, so you might want to think twice before having more than one.
4. Fit & Active Low Carb Tortillas
Even though tortillas aren’t technically bread, we hope you’ll forgive us after trying these. They have 4g of net carbs, which isn’t great but is totally manageable if you plan ahead. We use these to make wraps and tacos whenever the mood strikes us.
Best Aldi Keto Snacks and Treats
Looking for some keto ice cream, a satisfying crunch, or a sweet treat with a low net carb volume? Aldi has you covered!
1. Clancy’s Pork Rinds
Crunchy snacks are scientifically proven to be more satisfying. Well, maybe not, but these pork rinds never fail to hit the spot, and 0g net carbs make them the perfect keto snack.
2. Simms Beef Sticks
These beef sticks are reminiscent of Slim Jims but taste better and cost less. The mild variety is our favorite. Simms also makes turkey sticks, although we prefer the beef version for its higher fat content.
3. Southern Grove Unsalted Almonds
Almonds are a tried-and-true keto snack that we always make sure we have on hand. Aldi sells Southern Grove unsalted almonds at a great price, making these a no-brainer buy.
4. Appleton Farm’s Bite-Size Dry Salami
Who doesn’t love salami? We don’t know either. Appleton Farm’s bite-size dry salami is an affordable keto snack with an almost 1:1 ratio of protein to fat and 0g of net carbs. It comes in original and spicy versions. Both flavors are quite tasty.
5. Savoritz Parmesan Chips
If you only remember one item from this list, make it this one. These parmesan chips are outrageously good. They also have 7g of fat and 0g of net carbs, making them the perfect keto-friendly snack.
6. Simply Nature Chia Seeds
We think chia seeds are slept on as a convenient and tasty keto snack. We like to eat them by themselves, but you can also use them to thicken up shakes and pudding or use them as a keto breadcrumb substitute.
7. Specialty Selected Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia nuts can be expensive, but Aldi’s Specialty Selected macadamia nuts are actually quite affordable. These are a great snack for outdoor activities like hiking and camping and also go well in desserts. They are naturally very low in net carbs.
8. Chef’s Cupboard Cream of Mushroom Soup
Warning: this soup has 7g net carbs, making it a stretch for many keto diets. However, if you’re craving a warm bowl of creamy soup, this is one of the better options you can find at Aldi. Whipping up homemade soup is usually the better option for keto dieters, but this can be a good emergency option when used sparingly.
9. Simply Nature Chicken Bone Broth
We weren’t sure where to include this one but had to make sure it made the list. Bone broth is extremely useful for bolstering homemade soup, sauces, and stew by adding a little flavor and protein. It’s only $1.79 per container and can be stored frozen for up to a year.
10. Specially Selected Panino Tray
If rolling cheese is too much work, consider picking up this Panino Tray. It comes with individual sticks of mozzarella cheese wrapped in salami, prosciutto, and pepperoni. This is perfect for entertaining guests but also comes in handy when you need a quick keto-friendly snack.
11. Aldi Keto Ice Cream
Aldi has a selection of low carb ice cream specifically for keto dieters! They offer three different flavors, all of which are delicious. Keto ice cream often has unwanted ingredients that make it non-ideal for a keto diet, but with 5g of net carbs per serving, this keto ice cream is ideal for a low carb sweet treat.
Aldi Keto Condiments and Dips
Our keto shopping trips always include a collection of low net carb condiments to spice up all of our food. Aldi is one of our favorite places to buy keto-friendly dressings and sauces.
1. Little Salad Bar Guacamole
Guacamole is rich in healthy fats and very calorically dense, making it perfect for meeting your daily macros and calorie target. Little Salad Bar’s guacamole is as affordable as it is delicious and one of our favorite brands.
2. Specialty Selected Premium Marinara Sauce
We’ll let you decide whether or not pasta sauce is really a condiment. All we’ll say is that this Aldi brand sauce is the perfect way to add some zest to your zoodles while adding very few net carbs. You can usually find it for around $4 per jar.
3. Casa Mamita Restaurant Style Salsa
Salsa makes an excellent addition to many meals. Aldi has three flavors of Casa Mamita salsa: restaurant-style, black bean & corn, and pineapple. The restaurant-style is the best all-around option, but the pineapple is also worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous.
4. TruWhip Keto Topping
TruWhip Keto Topping has 0g sugar and only 1g of net carbs, making it an almost completely guilt-free topping. We love this stuff and always have some on hand to top our favorite keto desserts.
5. Burman’s Hot Sauce
If you like the hot sauce as much as we do, you’ll definitely want to try Burman’s. It only costs $2 per bottle, and we put it on everything — wait, that’s a different brand.
Best Aldi Keto Baking Ingredients
Maybe you’re not keen on keto ice cream and prefer a homemade sweet treat. Aldi has your back with plenty of keto friendly baking ingredients and sweeteners.
1. Sweet Additions Stevia
Stevia is our favorite option for sweetening baked goods. It doesn’t impart any funky tastes like some artificial sweeteners and won’t affect your blood sugar levels.
2. Baker’s Corner Almond Flour
Almond flour is a great alternative to regular white flour for making delicious keto baked goods. This one has 3g net carbs, which we can live with given how good it tastes.
3. Baker’s Corner Unsweetened Baking Cocoa
With 2g net carbs, this unsweetened cocoa is a staple in all our chocolatey keto baked goods. It’s pretty affordable, too, giving it a nearly permanent home on our baking shelf. Although…it does go quickly when we use it in our keto chocolate!
